Good-bye Daniel Lee!

Sunday, July 31, 2011

Today we went to the Don Valley ward for Daniel's farewell talk. He spoke in Chinese so we needed the head set. I got teary-eyed during his talk, but what got the waterfalls running was the closing hymn, I'll Go Where You Want Me To Go. Oh man, I was baaaaawlling! Laura and Jezreel were laughing at me so much because poor Alexander looked so freaked out about how much I was crying.

This is my profile picture dedicated to Dan:

‘Tis is Mr. Daniel Lee aka DANREL-REE aka DANNYKINS.

He has been called to serve as a missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Brisbane, Australia. He reports at the MTC in Provo, Utah on August 3rd...which is tomorrow. *CRIES* He is the first of our group to go and I am an emotional mess. Daniel, you’re going to make an amazing missionary. Thank you so much for being such a great friend and good example to us all. I’m so proud of you for sacrificing two years to do the Lord’s work. There’s been some good times bud; from playing baseball to you escorting me at my debut to us and our sinking boats (LOL). You’re probably the only person I know who would ever simultaneously say “ewww” with me when someone makes a comment about us being together (hahaha!) You’ve been there for me for pretty much everything that’s happened the last 3 years. Thank you so much for everything. I know you’re not dying, but it’s pretty hard to accept the fact that you won’t be around anymore for the next two years. Rowr rowr rowr. I’m going to miss you so much. ROVE ROO! ♥

Pic1: How dare you disregard my sobbing self.
Pic 2: Us being us.
P.S. People of Australia, take care of our booey.

P.P.S. Dan, bring me back a kangaroo.

Anyway, I always have fun hanging with the Filipinos in my ward. Here are a few of my favourites. For more, just search for the maternity photo on my Photoshoot Archive on the sidebar there on the left.

MGCI Beach Reunion

The past few months I have had the opportunity to help plan a summer reunion for the MGCI 2009 graduates. I only get to see my high school crew a few times a year, and the other high school peeps like none. So I was extremely excited to be a part of this and see everyone.

Habs & Sims

Oh how I miss my crew (Sims is the one taking the photo)

This be my girls right here :)

And I haven't seen these guys since graduation :o

Like my nail polish? Aryana, Arrius, and I got our nails done two days ago.
I chose the colour specifically for this reunion :)

The sunshine and the morbid. Oh how I love her.

Volleyball! What what!

My goodness, we were in the same class in the 1st and 2nd grade.
But we only became close in our last year!

These be my people.
Well, some of them.
Haha, MGCI has quite a large population. This isn't even a quarter of the whole lot!

Institute Thoughts

Friday, July 22, 2011

I thought this week's Institute lesson was really interesting...

- D&C 84:24 - "which rest is the fullness of his glory" - do what He wants us to do. Bring up His kingdom
- "I'm contemplating what I'm going to build my world like"
- What can I do differently this month to make my Sabbath day more meaningful?
- How much you put into preparing for the Sabbath determines how much you get out of it.
- Do you pray before a date?
- When you buy a piece of clothing, remember who's standard you're using. You wanna be ready to serve the Lord any day of the week ***
- The whole meeting is called the "sacrament meeting". That means we must continue with the sacredness!

This puts a smile on my face.

I wrote this girl, Jayden Cartwright, who takes super amazing photography, and told her how much I loved her photos. During YSA Conference I get a text from Facebook that she finally messaged me back!

Hey lady!
How come I am just reading this now?! ODDDDDDD. Thank you so so much!! It means so much to me that you think that! I really appreciate it. I also have creeped you [many, many a time] and you have a great eye!! i am always impressed with how you aren't ashamed of being a LDS girl at all, and how everyone can tell that you have that light about you. KEEP IT STAYING STRONG! bahaha. but really, I admire that about you! Did i mention that you are also super goooorgeous?! Just thought I would let ya know.Thanks again, that is super kind of you.-JKC.[ps] I also enjoy how you do your album names like I do! Suuuuper presh

Ohhhhh. Myyyyy. Goodnessss! That put the biggest, fattest smile on my face! I honestly felt like a celebrity just commented on my photography! I was so happy! And especially when she told me that there's a light about me...coming from her, I was like WOW. Cause there's this thing I quote about photography: "the talent to capture beauty in the things that go unnoticed". When you're a photographer, you take photos in a way to show the value of things. And when I look at Jayden's photography I could tell that she is just an amazing person to those she's around and has an amazing light that allows everyone to love her. So when she said that I was like :o :o :o LOOOOL. Yes, celebrity-just-talked-to-me type expression.

YSA Conference 2011 - Songs

So during conference there were quite a few verses from hymns that I thought would be appropriate to share for the sake of my blog.

HOW FIRM A FOUNDATION hymn85 - last verse
Fear not, I am with thee; oh, be not dismayed,
For I am thy God and will still give thee aid.
I'll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand,
Upheld by my righteous, upheld by my righteous
Upheld by my righteous, omnipotent hand.

DO WHAT IS RIGHT hymn237 - last verse
Do what is right; be faithful and fearless.
Onward, press onward, the goal is in sight.
Eyes that are wet now ere long will be tearless.
Blessings await you in doing what's right!

Today, while the sun shines, work with a will;
Today all your duties with patience fulfill.
Today, while the birds sing, harbor no care;
Call life a good gift; call the world fair.
Today, today, work with a will;
Today, today, your duties fulfill.
Today, today, work while you may;
Prepare for tomorrow by working today.

Today seek the treasure better than gold,
The peace and the joy that are found in the fold.
Today seek the gems that shine in the heart;
While here we labor, choose the better part.

Today, today, work with a will;
Today, today, your duties fulfill.
Today, today, work while you may;
Prepare for tomorrow by working today.

Today seek for goodness, virtue, and truth,
As crown of your life and the grace of your youth.
Today, while the heart beats, live to be true,
Constant and faithful all the way though.

Today, today, work with a will;
Today, today, your duties fulfill.
Today, today, work while you may;
Prepare for tomorrow by working today.

^There is so much truth portrayed in these songs. Especially in the chorus, "prepare for tomorrow by working today." I don't know how much more I can express that everything that happens now, whether good or bad, is just something that Heavenly Father has given us to help us learn and grown because He loves us. My testimony for music is so strong. I love the impact they have on the lives of many. Even at times when I'm feeling spiritually low, all I have to do is play any LDS song and the truth is just portrayed to me so simply but beautifully.

2nd Speaker: Cindy Kalenga
- If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything. If you don't know where you're going, you'll end up anywhere.
- If you know what you do and do what you know, then you begin to change from what you were.

- Compare yourself no to the chess pieces, but to the chess board itself.

7th Speaker: Elder David Murray
- When we say "I know this church is true" do we think of all those principles that we believe in?
- We become the hands, arms, and feet of the Saviour. We are His disciples and we represent Him.
- Moroni 7:48
- 1. Faith is a fundamental principle
- 2. Love - the Lord and fellowmen - attribute to have in this life
- 3. Service - Pattern the Lord has set
- The Lord doesn't roll a dice. He knows us very well. We must recognize the blessings and opportunities He knows is best for us. ********

CH: Today, While the Sun Shines (#229) BLOG!

I can't even express how much I have enjoyed conference. It was exactly the spiritual uplift I needed for quite some time now. I didn't bare my testimony during testimony meeting, but I agree with Sara when she says that: it wasn't our time to, it was a time for us to just sit and listen. I absolutely agree. I felt like I needed to hear the testimony of others to help strengthen me. With a lot of drama going on in life lately, I really needed this conference to help gain my perspective back. I know my Father in heaven would never abandon me, so I should never abandon Him. I need to endure and continue through my life doing the things He needs me to so that His kingdom can continue to be built. I know these conferences are inspired of God and that they are here for our benefit. I'm grateful for the spirit I have felt and for the speakers and leaders that have put so much time and effort into the workshops and activities to make sure we have a great time. I am also thankful for the new and strengthened friendships I have. Seriously, I can't imagine living this life without the friends I have at the moment. They are all examples to me one way or another and always want me to become better. I love the fact that we have these conferences to allow that to happen so we can learn and spiritually grow together so I can have those opportunities to strengthen my relationships with them.

YSA Conference 2011 - Day 2 - July 16, 2011

Workshop #1: Being Benevolent
- We believe in BEING...
- can you do without being?
- Use self description. Think yourself into becoming by doing.
- Matthew 7:21-22, 1 Corinthians 13
- Focus on your motives; the outside comes after
- "The world works from the outside in; the Lord works from the inside out" - Ezra Taft Benson
- Benevolence isn't about getting stats or working miracles, but wanting to do good
- Moroni 7:45 - charity = parent = driven by love, just like our Heavenly Father
- Our time on earth - learn charity. We need to be careful what we do here because it may not only afflict your parents but your Heavenly parents as well
- focus less on yourself and more on others!!
- **Make the best of my visiting teaching**
- "The best and most clear indicator that we are progressing spiritually and coming unto Christ is the way we treat other people." - Marvin J. Ashton
- Watch over, be with, and strengthen others
- "Nothing so much calculated to lead people to forsake sin as to take them by the hand and to watch over them in tenderness. when persons manifest the least kindness and love to me, O what pow'r it has over my mind" - Joseph Smith
- What are you going to do to become benevolent?

Workshop #2: Virtue
- In times that we are idle, we tend to wonder. Fill your life with good, wholesome activities and goals to fill your time with to help you grow and learn. This is the pattern of behaviour you should establish in your life.
- Look at each other as Heavenly Father's greatest prized-possession. Each of us deserves to be treated with respect.
- Always remain virtuous to the Lord no matter what. Learn to bridle your passions. Do not let anything or anybody bring your standards down.
- *My patriarchal blessing says that I have a good mind. Sometimes I think I don't. But that is what Heavenly Father expects of me because He knows I have that potential. My goal is to be able to fulfill what Heavenly Father expects of me.
- *Have that heart to heart discussion with Heavenly Father - I think I don't have much to pray about? Force myself to think of the things I need to fix and work hard to change them. STRIVE TO BE BETTER!

Workshop #3: We Believe in High Adventure
- Lack of understanding leads to lack of belief - limits their faith and confidence - limits ability to solve problems - can't look forward and can't progress - keeps going less and less until it leads to hard heart (It's a continuous cycle) - So when "stinky things" happen in life, all they see are the "stinky things"
- "The church has done many difficult things, and from these achievements one would not wish to detract. But all the easy things the church has had to do have been done. From now on it's HIGH ADVENTURE" - Elder Maxwell  (Relates to topic of trials of pioneers compared to our trials now that Sara and I talked about concerning The Work and the Glory)
- D&C 121:26-27
- High Adventure - when you think of adrenaline activities, they can be so much fun and filled with excitement. But as the same time there's such a high risk of your life because you can make one mistake that leads to disaster.
- We chose to come here. We WANTED to come here. So when we are faced with trials we have to deal with it. Suck it up princess!!
- 2 Nephi 11:4-8

The workshops were amazing. The spirit was so strong and I wanted to do so much better after listening to them. The last workshop was perfectly in tuned with the main topic for my blog. It definitely put me back into perspective.

After the workshops was lunch. Aryana had a meeting with the IRC so Sara and I decided we'd eat lunch then take a short nap cuz boy was I tired! But right when we were cleaning up after lunch Andres called me and asked what we were doing. I told him I was about to sleep and he called me lame -.- So he invited us out since it was such a beautiful day...which it was!

So Sara and I just chilled with Andres and Jonathan for the break. I love those two! And look look lookie at what we found!! Yes, it is a dear. I got so excited! When it started to walk away, Jonathan and I followed it cuz I wanted to pet it :) (But I didn' disappeared into the forest)

After break was the service project. Jonathan and I walked together for that one and I must say, the Deeks have always talked about how great the Bernal brothers were but I only knew Andres. And Andres is the bombdiggity! Now that I got to know Jonathan a little bit more I can officially say along with the Deeks that the Bernals ARE  really that great. We had a really interesting conversation and I must say I was really impressed.

The service project activity was to write to the soldiers out in war. They showed us a video about the Highway of Heroes. Honestly, I've always seen the sign on the highway but I never knew what it meant. And now I do. And I now have a greater appreciation for the men and women who fight for our country. It truly is an amazing and courageous thing to do.

Next was the water sports activity! WOOT WOOT! It was so nice and hot outside, water sports were perfect to drench the heat! I love the UofTM much fun to run around in!

This is us soaking wet from playing the water version of Octopus! Too much fun :) And then I just made them more wet by attacking them.

Next was time to get ready for the YSA Formal! Woot! I was so excited for it :)
We be your 103 ladies :)
The two Ar[i][y]ana's and the Sara. OR
The two white girls and the Filipino. OR
The two who can dance, and the one who can not.

Last few moments with Dannykins before he leaves for Australia :')

Me and Shanelley :)

So during the dance Sara and Malkia and I had challenges for each other. I did not get to fulfill my challenge but I definitely helped Sara and Milky fulfill there's hahahahahaha!!

After the formal Dante and I frolicked in the sprinklers with our formal attire. LOL.

And after we've gotten dressed in our PJs, Andres told me to come outside because apparently there was a party going on...what? We open our door and like everyone was just chilling in the hallway (our door was right at the main entrance window so we could see everyone outside). So we went ahead and joined them IN OUR PJs! Andres, Jonathan, and Jaime invited us all to go watch the guys play football, and we were about to but part way there Aryana had a prompting that we should go back. So we did and had girls' talk instead :)

YSA Conference 2011 - Day 1 - July 15, 2011

Sara, Aryana, and I are roomies :)

Keynote Speaker: Bishop Turner
- when promised blessings, they enfold to you throughout many years of your life
- 13th article of faith is the only one that has to do with character
- be the bright sunshine ray that lights up the room
- we need to represent the church of Christ for Christ!! We do so by living the 13th article of faith.
- make the decision to be and live happily. when you practice to do so, you eventually become that.
- Mosiah 3:19, Alma 7:11-13
- The church system hires teachers - it is so important to teach how we can become like Christ to represent His church
- Teach us how to rely on the Atonement of Jesus Christ - learn only by the Holy Ghost
- Conquer the natural man inside us
- Do Something to help the YSA converts to stick with and grow their testimony
- the Gospel is about me changing on the INSIDE
- You need the right attitude for the Spirit to teach. Have an open heart and mind.

Today finally came! I've been looking forward to YSA Conference for so long. No joke, Satan is trying to stop me from going on my summer spiritual retreats. I've been out of school for two months and all I was waiting for to kick off my summer was YW Camp. But did I go? NO. Cuz I got sick the day before. I haven't missed YW Camp since I was 13! And now before YSA Conference I was coughing like crazy. No way am I letting the adversary keep me from spiritual upliftment!

I really liked our opening devotional. Our key note speaker was great! Our theme is "We Believe", focused on the 13th Article of Faith. Odd enough when the speaker asked if someone knew it he saw my hand go up and asked me to recite it. Ha, that was a surprise. I hate getting up in front of people.

He talked about how the 13th Article of Faith is the only one that deals with our character and not gospel/doctrine. Our goal is to make sure we gain those qualities so we can better represent Christ and His church.

I really enjoyed the video they showed about conversion stories through institute. It was really touching to see all these people's lives changed for the better.

Our opening social wasn't a dance but an interactive game. We had groups and a list of items we needed to take pictures of. I got along pretty well with my group which I was extremely happy about.

I'm so excited for the workshops tomorrow!

Happy Birthday Andres!

Today's cotillion practice was really productive because my parents came to watch us.
We got through the whole dance, minus the last part, so YAY!
Talk about stress :P

And Andres's birthday is tomorrow so we had cake and ice cream for him.

And apparently it's Bro. Bernals birthday too!
