181st Semi-annual General Conference - April Sunday Session

Sunday, April 3, 2011

Let me just say that these past two Sundays brought back memories. One year ago at the last April General Conference, all my favourite missionaries were still here: Corkin, Nelson, Wheeler, Baker, Dewey, Wray...(Haha and that embarrassing thing that happened with the wind and my skirt HA-HA!). And six months ago was when Anderson got transferred to our ward. Just sayin', the past two days brought back memories. ANYWAY...

DIETER F. UCHTFORF:
- Those who diligently seek Christ will find Him. You receive pieces of the puzzle. At first it might not seem like anything, but when all the pieces are formed together, that's when we see the big beautiful picture.
- Turn out the worldly noise!
- Don't even block out the promptings of the Spirit because eventually you won't be so sensitive to them anymore.
- "LORD, WHAT WILT THOU HAVE ME DO?"
- Heavenly Father asks us to seek out first, then pray for guidance. The answer may come from family/friends/leaders
- "God knows us and watches over us, but it is often through others that He meets our needs." So we must go serve others!
- He might not answer us when we're on our knees, but when we're on our feet ****
- We often get the answer to our prayers as we fulfill someone else's ****
- When asked about our weekend, try to discuss something Spiritual we learned - spiritual, uplifting, and humour to share
- You can affect someone's life for eternity
- Be joyful and at peace with the world and people will wonder why.
- Don't miss your opportunities! Do not doubt!
- Don't wait too long  on our road to Damascus. We walk with faith, with hope and charity, and we will shine.

PAUL V. JOHNSON:
- Afflictions are part of our mortality experience!
- Trials are to test us and important for us in our divine nature.
- "No pain that we suffer, no trial that we experience is waster. ...All that we suffer and all that we endure, especially when we endure it patiently, builds up our characters, purifies our hearts, expands our souls, and makes us more tender and charitable. ...It is through sorrow and suffering, toil and tribulation, that we gain the education that we come here to acquire."
- Even the richest oar needs purification" - Good is not enough! We are trying to be like Christ!
- The only way to see the best views is to take the climb. Only AFTER trials come the best of blessings.
- We don't seek our trials and tribulations, but they play such an important role in our progression.
- Sometimes we want growth without challenges. That's NOT possible.
- Don't forget trials are what helps us put on the Divine Nature.
- Always in the Lord's time and way. We need to trust Him.
- When you go behind the veil, we don't just want someone to say, "you're done". You want the Lord to say, "well done!"

H. DAVID BURTON:
- Helping people help themselves
- We need to care for each other when we're here on earth

SYLVIA H. ALLRED:
- True Christ discipleship is when we love one another!
- Inspired visiting teachers << Need to make it a goal! Aryana and Melissa are amazing examples.
- Gospel in action = our service to others.

DAVID A. BEDNAR:
- Desire and righteousness allows the Spirit of Revelation
- dreams, visions, conversations...
- turning light in a room is like immediate revelation ..comes when God allows it to
- gradual increase in light like the rising sun. develops with our righteousness. this revelation is more common. even Nephi was shown time to time about what he should do. Line upon line, precept upon precept
- Individuals question their testimony because they do not receive frequent revelation...*KNOW that you are quite normal. Just keep pressing forward!!!
- It is by humility and close relationship with God
- Those who need constant, big experiences to keep their testimony, they they are standing on a slippery slope (it's ok for me to be getting it every so often. It means I'm doing fine and I just need to continue to do righteously and I can't go wrong!!)
- God just requires us to do our best and trust in Him
- As we honour our covenants and strive to walk righteously, then we should walk confidently that the Lord will guide us
- No matter how the revelation comes, it WILL bring light into your life and help you and your family

PRES. THOMAS S. MONSON
- The point of temple-building is so our members have more access to it. We need to do the work!
- Those who understand the blessings of the temple will make great efforts to receive those blessings. *Eternity with the family is the best blessing you can get.
- The work is ours to do!
- Whatever it take, qualify for the temple of the Lord
- You have not obtained every thing the church has to offer...keep going
- Keep a picture of the temple in every room of your house
- May we take any sacrifices to attend the temple

Choir: The Spirit of God

AFTERNOON SESSION

RICHARD G SCOTT:
- If you want a wonderful wife, you have to show you are a wonderful man and prospective husband
- Express gratitude for what your spouse does for you
- Willingness to give and share and not to think of self righteous love is the foundation of family
- Loss is easier to accept when you know you are sealed for eternity
- With certainty, you will receive every blessing you are worthy of
- "I know what it is to love a daughter of Father in Heaven who with grace and devotion lived the full feminine splendor of her righteous womanhood." BEAUTIFUL

D. TODD CHRISTOFFERSON:
- The Gospel of Jesus Christ is a plan to become what Heavenly Father wants us to become
- Whoever the Lord loveth, He chasenth
- Directs our course to a better path
- My people need to be tried in all things to be prepared to enter the kingdom
- The BUSH story
..."why'd you cut me down?"
..."you will thank me later because I do not intend for you to be a fruit tree or a shade tree, but something else special"
- thank you for loving me enough to cut me down
- if we put off fixing ourselves, He will not remind us anymore
- what can I do better???

CARL B. PRATT:
- Lived well even without money - still payed tithing because they were GRATEFUL
- We are all in-debt to the Lord
- Tithing is not a matter of money, but a matter of faith in God
- He does not promise money or wealth, but wisdom to use our resources - Lord's richest blessings are spiritual
- Develop humble and generous heart, charitable, forgiving, obedient

LYNN G. ROBBINS:
- To be or not to be, that is the question
- Saying without being is hypocracy - like faith without works is dead
- Don't portray false image of thyself
- Doing baptism / having faith
- Doing sacrament / being worthy
- TO DO LIST VS. BEING
- E.g. Take wife out on date VS. being a good husband
- you cannot cross out BEING something on a to-do list
- Teaching "BE" is more important
- With children - don't blame what they DO but teach them how to BE better
- Should not discipline in anger, but in kindness, pure knowledge, love
- When you compliment, try to compliment the BEING instead of the DOING
- E.G. Report card: "Good job at being so diligent" instead of "good job on doing great"

BENJAMIN D. HOYOS:
- Be dedicated to eternal families - not just your own but also those who have gone astray (Remember:Institute lesson)

C. SCOTT CROW:
- God suffered for us all so we wouldn't have to suffer. But that only applies when we apply the Atonement into our lives. ALLOW IT TO HEAL YOU!!

JEFFREY R. HOLLAND:
-  consecrate lives around Christ and fulfill their duties for the sake of blessing others
- "comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable"
- beattitudes soothing to the soul
- salvation can only come HIS way
- if we teach by the spirit and speak by the spirit, someone will take that as an epistle and it will help them
- one way or another, the Lord will have His voice heard
- SOUND THE TRUMPET OF GOD!!!!!!!!! Love and warning to all.
- be irrepressibly cheerful like Pres. Monson!

Pres. THOMAS S. MONSON:
- be souls of honesty and integrity in wherever we go and whatever we do
- DEVELOP A CELESTIAL ATTITUDE
