IRC Stuff, say what?

Tuesday, August 30, 2011

I was invited to attend the Institute of Religion Council (IRC) meeting today. Dun dun dun. Well, only because I’m working on the Institute kick-off video...and they want me to be in charge of one of the stations for activity. I also did a whole bunch of interviews for the video today as well. WOOT WOOT! I interviewed Jasmine Rodziewicz, John Kay, Michael Ojelade, and Scott Davenport. Mmm, they had some REALLY deep things to say. I can’t wait to put this thing together!! If you have NO clue what I'm talking about, read the last paragraph of this post

Ahaaa and then after I asked Michael to randomly rap for know, just in case I want to put something fun in the video. He said he needed a beat, so I got my sister to do it LOLOLOLOL!

Coolest thing ever!

So there’s a picture I found on Tumblr way back in July and I really wanted to make one just like it.
I spent a few minutes this evening trying it out.

We finally went to Kensington!!!

Friday, August 26, 2011

We’ve putting it off week after week because we’ve just been so busy. This was one of my only chances to chill with Stefanie Chen. She’s a good friend of mine from when we were both in the youth program, but she goes to school at BYU Hawaii so I rarely get to see her. We finally decided that we’d do photo shooting at Kensington Market.

Talk about fail trip.
We got so lost!!!!! And when we finally got there, we walked around Kensington Market. We didn’t even walk within it, so we didn’t see all that much!! AGH. It was getting dark and none of us liked being downtown in the dark, so we kept it safe by quickly walking along the border then taking the streetcar back home. LOL. But at least we got some good pictures! We’re going to have to make another trip back there, for shopping and photography.

From Stefanie's really cool fish-eye lens!

Entourage After-Party!

Thursday, August 25, 2011

Today is the day! Entourage after-party, say whaaaat?!

We started the day off with Laura and I doing a seminary visit for Clint (Jared was at driving school and couldn’t make it). The visit went pretty well. I wish his sister was home...I miss her so bad. I was guessing she would’ve been still asleep in bed so I was going to jump on her...But she was babysitting her niece. Sigh. Next time.

Then we headed to the Dapats. Ok, so you know how it takes girls a super long time to get ready? Bahahaha, this was not the case at the Dapats! We stayed at the Dapats apartment for soooo long because Andrew took forever to get ready. LAWL. We had to change our reservations to 2:00 because we took so flipping long. We headed across the street to the Zibins and then we did our seminary visit....IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD! Haha! The Zibins met up with us part way so we were standing in a circle on the road and I just bore my testimony about seminary and how important it was to go. We ended with a prayer to bless us before we go off for the reunion, so there was 8 of us huddled in a circle, arms folded and eyes closed, praying in the middle of the road. WOW, I wonder what the cars passing us were thinking.

We got to Woo’s. The place is SO NICE.

A toast to our very successful performance :)

It has such a great view of downtown Toronto from the window. But the place looked pretty fancy. The food isn’t as good as Mandarin though, not gonna lie. There wasn’t a huge variety, so I suggest if you want to go eat somewhere with lots of food, go somewhere else.

Next, we headed over to Shirin’s for swimming. Swimming brings such joy to my face, you don’t even know.

And thennnn it was Elder Dewey’s goodbye party at the church. Tehehe his dad loved my cupcakes so much.
Meet Elder Dewey's sister, Annalee!

So today Jared and I started our seminary visits, first with Sebastian. Hoooooly, he lives so far. Jared and I bused it alllll the way there, stayed for like 10 mins, then bused it alllll the way back. But it’s ok. We got talk time so Jared could tell me his stories from Nauvoo. SOOO I was super nervous when we were challenging Sebastian...I guess it’s just because he’s the first we did and I wasn’t quite sure what to say. But we challenged him and he said “of course”. These kids are too good!

We got home and Eulah was at my place, WHAT WHAAAAT! I love that chick. She and my sister have been friends since grade 4 and she’s leaving for Ottawa for university so she paid us a visit. Man, this girl practically lived with us back in the day. Laura and Eulah got super close in middle school and then her family ended up moving...but she still had to attend her last year in middle school. So her parents would drive her over every single morning and stay with us till the evening when her parents could pick her mom. I AM GOING TO MISS HER. She is the definition of AWESOME. And she used to be such a tomboy when we were younger...and now she’s a BABE. No creeper move intended. Ahaa, I just love her.

Then Grandma, Laura, and I went to Ate Leah and Tita Portia’s place for visiting teaching. I let grandma take the reins on this one since it was the first time I was doing it with a companion. Surprisingly I found myself talking out fore than usual. And everything I said was inspired from something I learned from Institute or YSA conference. See, these programs are God-inspired. So I really enjoyed the lesson. Afterwards they fed us. They don’t have to, but they did, and boy it was YUMMY. And we had milkshakes and cheesecake for dessert...TWO OF MY FAVOURITE THINGS. Man, today is just going so well for me. But the reason we stayed longer was because Laura and I were going to help Ate Leah plan Ezra’s 1st birthday party. My job: photographer, obviously. Laura’s: emcee. Ezra is going to have the cutest decorations and tiara...OH MY GOODNESS, my little princess is turning 1!!

Good-bye Elder Dewey!

Tuesday, August 23, 2011

Shooooo. Last night after FHE, Elder Dewey called about getting an investigator to talk to dad. Laura and I, obviously eavesdropping, thought that he was calling to set up a dinner appointment, so we start calling out time we’re free so he can come over and eat. Ha-ha-ha, when we found out that wasn’t the reason he called we got sad. But because Elder Dewey is THE MAN, he said he could come over with his family. WOOT WOOT! We pretty much showed them Laura’s debut since we invited them all to come (but they couldn’t make it because Elder Dewey’s mission was extended). His mom is so awesome and so much fun. His dad, awww, too cute. He was getting my dad to demonstrate how to make the cupcake boxes.

Lookie what Elder Dewey left for us in the washroom:

Dang, we’re gonna miss him. He was a greenie in our ward and stayed for 9 months. Then he came back as an assistant! He is the bombdiggity!

Best Sacrament Meeting EVERRRRR.

Sunday, August 21, 2011

Facebook Status:
What a wonderful Sunday. The Sprit was sooo strong during sacrament meeting, I don't think there was one dry eye present. Thank you to all the youth and leaders for bearing your testimonies and sharing with us that sweet Spirit you've felt at Nauvoo. T-DOT Stake is where it's at ;) You guys are all amazing ♥ Laura Kae LimasJezreel MilloraJared MilloraJohn ZibinNicole ZibinBen HynynenSebastian Gelvez

Legit, today we had the best Sacrament Meeting EVER. I was so excited for today. All the youth were back from Nauvoo and they were all going to bear their testimonies. Let me tell you, the night before I was pretty envious, yet at the same time fairly touched, that all the youth in the stake had become a whole lot closer. It made me envious just because I wish I could’ve gotten that time to get close to all of them too, but it put the biggest smile on my face that they were getting close. Anyway, the whole Sacrament meeting I was in tears. I was so touched by each and every one of the youth and leader’s testimony. Felipe spoke first and he choked up near the end of his talk, which got us all started. I was very impressed with hearing everyone’s testimonies. Jezreel’s testimony made me cry the hardest. I know what she’s been through and I was so touched and so proud of her for working so hard so she could be able to make it to the Nauvoo trip. I could see her growth throughout the year and I could see how firm and strong and how willing she was when she got back to continue living righteously. Each youth bore their testimony about something different so we pretty much got their experience as a whole. I am so proud of these youth and I love each and every one of them with all my heart: Laura, Jezreel, Jared, Nicole, John, Sebastian, Ben, Miguel, and Felipe. I felt envious before? NOT ANYMORE. The Spirit was so strong and I couldn’t feel anything but happy for each of them and that they were able to gain that experience when they did. The Gospel is truly an incredible thing.

As I was sitting there crying a waterfall I looked around and honestly there was not a dry eye in the congregation. That’s how strong the spirit was. It was such an amazing feeling. I looked up at the youth and I silently wished that Holly, Andres, and Jason were in our ward so I could hear them bear their testimony as well. [Side note: Seriously, if the Deeks, Burns, and Bernals moved out of Scarborough ward and into the Don Mills ward, MY LIFE WOULD BE COMPLETE.] After the meeting I went up to the front and gave each of them a HUGE hug. Haha, I treat them like my babies...that’s why I’m called the Ate ;)

After church was the seminary kick-off. We were on the 3rd floor as Melissa prepped the students and their parents up for the new seminary year. WOO! I did some doodling, of course:

Ha, and Nicole came running to us afterwards to show us this:

LOLOLOLOL Apparently she got close to Ben during their trip. Ahahahahahhahaa. She calls him Pookie. Ahahahahahahahahaha!! TOO FUNNY!

Andrew left the meeting for a while and came back holding an Air Mormon sweatshirt. WHERE IN THE WORLD DID HE GET ONE?!?!?! (All the youth agreed to buy Air Mormon clothing to match each other, but Andrew couldn’t go because they didn’t get their visa on time). He said that Andres was here to drop it off for him. YO MAN, HOW COME I DON’T GET ONE?!

While we were eating the refreshments Andres randomly appeared and he was talking to John in a corner. Boy, did I jump on him! When it comes to Laura’s cotillion members, I feel the need to get excited when I see them since I don’t see them twice a week anymore haha.

Anyway, so we’re all sitting and eating refreshments then Aryana Rush comes to talk to me about the Fall semester kick-off for Institute. She said that Maybell wanted a kick-off video done and she was wondering if I could do it. HOLLLLAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!! OF COURSE I WILL DO IT!!!!! She didn’t even finish asking and I was already freaking out on her because I was so excited. The catch? It had to be ready to present the night of the kick-off...which was a little more than two weeks away. DUN DUN DUN. But hey, what’s a better way to end my summer than busying myself with a super awesome project? DUH. I am sooooooooo psyched for this!

Sports Fest!!

Saturday, August 20, 2011

So yesterday Tita Mindy picked me so I could sleep over at her place before we go to her church's Sports Fest. I was supposed to bring Andrew and Jonathan to come play basketball but Jonathan has another basketball game so I invited Shanelle to come to replace him.

At Tita Mindy's place Shanelle, Andrew, and I went straight to the swimming pool. Mmmm finally!! I haven't gone swimming all summer! What is this?! We had the whole pool to ourselves and we were just playing around. It was so much fun and so relaxing! I kept saying I wish Jared, Andres, and Jonathan could have come because I know they all really wanted to play basketball for the sports fest thing but couldn't make it.

HAHAHAHA, so the pool closes at 10 and we were still in there at 10:30. Oh my goodness, we got yelled at from the guy locking up. He was telling us that my aunt was supposed to be there with me. And then he barged in on Andrew while he was showering naked HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

We got to my aunt's apt and the moon was so bright and beautiful! I played around with the camera :)

We had hotdogs and then got ready for bed. The three of us were just having bed-talk time and then I texted Jonathan to tease that he was missing out on the fun. Surprisingly he decided that he was gonna come then and there to join us LOOOOOL. So he came like past midnight and the 4 of us were up sooooo late talking! And we had to leave the apartment at 6am too!! Ayaaaaaa!

I didn't play any sports, but I definitely cheered the 3 of them on. That's all I'm good for...cheerleading -.-"
The other teams were so legit compared to ours. Hahaha fail on our part.

It was definitely different from the way we have our activities. I always think it's interesting to watch how other sects of Christianity practice their faith, and I'm not saying that there's was wrong, but it was definitely different. I thought some things were pretty cool but it's amazing how you can actually deeply feel the difference. I love being LDS, enough said.

All three of them playing :)

By the time I got home, Laura and dad had already arrived from Nauvoo.
I barged in the house excited to see my sister, and what did she do?
She was lying on the couch sleeping and when I tugged on her foot to wake her up so I could hug her she told me to go away. HOW RUDE. But they did get me a really nice sweater that said Old Nauvoo as a mock Old Navy logo. I love it! Especially coz it's gray...Laura knows we oh too well.

Man today was busaaaay (meh, what else is new?)

We woke up at 5:45am to start our ride to the University of Toronto Mississauga campus at 6:30. It was our special ladies' day out: Sis Deeks, Sis Burns, Maria, Sara, and moi. Sara was asked to do a Modesty presentation for YLC again this year :)

...and I was her technical assistant.

The Toronto stake is in Nauvoo but i'm thinking "whateves, I'll still know people".

PFFFFT. I saw a few familiar faces and a whooooole bunch of unknown ones. Odd. I've only been out of youth for a year.

Sara's presentation went SOOOOO WELL!!! I am so excited for her! She has so many opportunities coming her way and I'm so happy for her because she's working her way towards her goal: to be able to work with the youth. Yeah, she's amazing.

We finally got a short version of our modesty video done because Sara wanted it for her presentation (history: we were going to enter the Mormon Messages contest but didn't make the deadline). The long one will be coming soon, but here's the short one for now:

Sara's presentation went longer than it was supposed to, but the key note speaker laid out his message loud and strong in like 20 mins. I was so impressed. And it was SO GOOD. He really knows how to make a presentation. And after his talk I found it more important to wait patiently for a worthy Priesthood holder and the importance of being worthy of someone else : )

(See, this is YLC is so amazing. You know these things already, but the world just makes you forget so easily sometimes. It's so refreshing to remember what I'm actually waiting for.)

Later on we had our lunch and walked around the field to see if we could find any friends. Julia and Kenny are cool because they ditched their sports to come hang with us for a while.

When we got back to Sara's place we watched Chasing Liberty

Daaaaaaaaaang, MATTHEW GOODE!

I thought he was a little attractive in Leap Year when he looked and acted slightly like a slob and was totally sarcastic but still charismatic with his (fake) Irish accent:

...How much more attractive do you think I thought he was when he was clean cut, determined, responsible, dark-haired, has his regular English accent, built, and a photographer and undercover agent:

He's the one on the left. See the camera? Hot daaaaaaaang.

Then I was at my grandma's because my visiting teachers were coming: Aryana & Melissa. Those two are the bomb. I was paying extra close attention so I know what to do when I go visiting teaching on my own with my grandma next week.

Lesson was on Holy Women. I really liked what Melissa said how being holy is a partnership with Christ. I remember back in the 12th grade when I told my friend what LDS stood for, he said "but you're not a Saint". Me being me, I didn't wanna make it sound like we were the most holiest people on earth in a boasting way.

But if he were to ask me again now, I would say that being a saint doesn't mean we're perfect and doesn't mean that we constantly focus on church all the time. But what we DO do is have that constant relationship with our Heavenly Father. We strive to have the Spirit with us and communicate with our Heavenly Father to create a relationship with him. We do things to the best of our ability, and He does the rest...and even then, he's still helping us while we're doing our best. Us being "holy women" is to always have that constant companionship of the Holy Ghost and that relationship with God so we know how to be better. We aren't perfect, but he knows our potential as His sons and daughters, and he's helping us to become like Him.

I feel so ditched.

Tuesday, August 16, 2011

So super early this morning I went along with dad and Laura to the Stake Centre.

I love love love the youth.
I love being around them.
I love hanging out with them.
(Wonder why I feel like such an odd one in YSA?)

Oh how I wish I could go with them!
When I went to Nauvoo I was 14 and I didn't exactly have the same appreciation for the gospel as I do now.
I was young and didn't have such a mature mind.
It was also my first Leadership conference so I felt really little compared to everyone else.
But if I could go now.......
I love all the youth that are going. That's where my closest group of friends are!
I would have had such a more amazing time with them!
And now that I have a deeper love and understanding of the Gospel
I think it would have benefited me more now than it did then.

BUT, I can't go because Pres. Burns said so.
BUT, that doesn't mean I can't help out and support :)

I took their pre-departure photos
(But they got deleted because my SD card was being dumb)

And Rod got me help check them out.
I was in charge of checking off the youth from
Don Mills, Don Valley, Scarborough, and Bayview wards
Along with their passports before they got onto the bus.
Hoorah, because those are my wards :)
Those are where most of my friends are.

And then when I finally watched them board the bus;
I saw the Cotillion get on and all sit near each other.
Laura, John, Jared, Andres, Jezreel, Holly, Jason.
Yes, I was touched that they were all hanging together.
And yes, I did feel left out. LOLLLL.
I love them so much.
I'm excited for them to come back because I can't wait to hear their testimonies on Sunday :)

Seminary promo! WOOT!

Sunday, August 14, 2011

After church Melissa Popiel, the new seminary teacher (and my visiting teacher), wanted to speak to me and a few others about seminary. She felt that she wanted to reach out to every seminary student by sending some of the seminary graduates to challenge them to come to seminary every morning.

Guess who I`m companions with?

Hahahaha, oh this is going to be interesting.

Melissa let us choose who we should visit.
Jared and I were the only companionship with no access to a car
so I made sure we picked the ones that would be easy to reach and easy to contact.

Andrew & Rouzine Dapat
John & Nicole Zibin
Clint Cassells
Sebastian Gelvez

Melissa had picked up some stones from a river while she was vacationing in Italy.
She had written their initials under each one and labelled it their prayer rock.
With each rock came a quote about prayer.

Our job was to give it to them and testify about seminary and encourage them to go.

I'm grateful for this opportunity because I LOVE SEMINARY! Seminary is one of the major things that has helped me gain my own testimony. It has been such a blessing in my life and I'm grateful for this chance to let the other youth know that and encourage them to make it a big part of their lives as well.

Get into seminary.
Learn the things that can
make you happy now and forever.

Ameeeeen to that!
